An afternoon in Long Island City

Another wonderful sunny afternoon in New York calls for another adventure for me and my little guy.

So earlier this week we headed to Long Island City in Queens where we found ourselves at Gantry Plaza State Park. I’d heard the views back across the city were amazing, plus for some reason I really wanted to see the Pepsi Cola sign up close after sailing past in on a river cruise recently.

They weren’t wrong about the view.  After finding our way to the waterfront from the subway station, we spent a long time just looking out over the river at the city. From the park you have perfect views of the Empire State Building, United Nations and the Chrysler Building.

We were also lucky enough to watch a seaplane coming into land. B thought this was amazing!

Gantry Plaza State Park covers 12 acres along the waterfront in Long Island City.  The former industrial area is now home to some very well manicured gardens and is very relaxing.

They obviously know everyone will come for the view, so there are lots of different seats facing out to the river. Naturally we tried them all!

There is also a little playground in the middle of the park. We spent a long time here and got chatting to some of the locals who were all lovely and seem to really enjoy living in the area.

With spectacular views and being just one stop from Manhattan on the subway, I can see why they love Long Island City.
