We had visitors from back home last weekend, so before
hitting all the delights of New York we grabbed a hire car and headed to
Washington for the Weekend (they were second time visitors so it was okay).
America’s capital city is full of iconic monuments, memorials and
museums. Once parked up at the hotel, it was a very easy city to navigate on
foot. We managed to tick of most of the
sights in one (very long) day including the White House, the Washington Memorial and many of the museums. There is also a good Metrorail system, but we
never needed to use it.
Walking around we felt like such New Yorkers as we were
struck by how quiet it was everywhere!
Although there are lots of museums to visit, many of which
are free. We only managed to squeeze in the Smithsonian National Air and Space
Museum and the International Spy Museum. Both of which are popular and great
for children.
Enjoy our snaps from our weekend! We also loved having the car;
if you have any other suggestions for weekend breaks within driving distance of
NYC I would love to know.
