New Traditions - Macys Santaland

As much as I have loved moving abroad, the holiday season can sometimes leave you pining for home. So it has been nice to start some new Christmas family traditions and our favorite of the season is Santaland at Macys.

You may have seen Santa fly into town at the end of the Macys Thanksgiving Parade. And from the parade until Christmas Eve he takes up residence on the 8th Floor at the Herald Square store and for the second time now we have taken B to see the ‘real’ Santa.

As Santa is such a popular guy you can expect a long line, which can take up to an hour or longer. I’d suggest heading there during the week or early in the day for a shorter wait. Once the little ones start school, you are looking at heading there on a weekend so a great tip is to sign up for a Santaland Express Pass so you can avoid the line.

There is plenty to see and enjoy in Santaland including Santa’s sleigh overflowing with teddies and toys, singing snowmen and wonderful train displays. It’s all set amongst snow and twinkly lights making it very magical.

There are several Santa’s on duty, a great idea to keep that line moving, but don’t worry the kids won’t sus what the Elves are up to as each Santa has his own cabin/booth and they keep you moving so you will only ever see one.

Our Santa was was very gentle and chatty with B, who was a little bit shy at first and helped him come out of his shell. Detecting the English accent he also asked if we were from around here. I told him we live in New York now, the same place as last year, then Santa's memory came flooding back, he remembered coming to our house last year! It was very sweet!

I almost forgot to mention its FREE to visit Santaland! They do take photos and sell the packages at the end, but its very low pressure, you don’t even have to look at them if you don’t want to. However we did and we bought them all!
